Our Work

In keeping with the aims and objectives, the work of the Trust will be two pronged:

1. Interventions at the grassroot through focused initiatives aimed at poverty alleviation, education, employment and livelihood generation and overall sustainable development of vulnerable and indigenous communities.

2. Interventions at the policy level through policy inputs, surveys and research and by creating a participatory platform for dialogue, discussions and deliberations on relevant socio-political and civic issues.

Projects:

Livelihood generation program at Phesual village
Designed as a holistic community project and executed with the assistance of the Dept. of Sericulture, this program aims to build a self-sustaining silk hub with four villages around Phesual, Jorhat, Assam as a pilot by training and skilling households to build and sustain a commercially viable enterprise in the handloom industry. This livelihood generation project includes-

• Skilling the women in rearing silkworm, harvesting thread, reeling and spinning as a profitable venture

• Planting of both castor and kesseru as backyard farms which can be looked after by the men of the families

• Training in financial literacy and access to markets

• Forming a weavers’ hub

• Developing cultural tourism around this hub and training the unemployed youth of the village as tour guides
